About the Speakers

Amanda Holden

Amanda Holden is a money writer, speaker, and educator. She left her job in investment management in San Francisco to get critically-needed financial education to the demographic she cares most about: Young women. (And anyone who has felt left out of these important conversations, because they are so often reserved for the already-wealthy.)

Through her business, Invested Development, she educates young women about investing and other money topic—because the world needs more women with financial power. She also writes a blog called The Dumpster Dog Blog, which is scrappy, no-BS finance education for young women. Her blog has been nominated for Money Blog of the Year and Women’s Money Blog of the Year for two years running, and won a Plutus Award for Best Social Media for the free investment education (and general tomfoolery) she provides on Instagram.

Jamila Souffrant

Jamila Souffrant is a podcaster, writer and founder of JourneytoLaunch.com where she shares her journey to reach Financial Independence while helping others do the same.

Jamila is considered a go-to financial thought leader in the personal finance field and is the resident financial expert on a weekly segment on News12, the most watched local TV news-station in NYC and has been featured in other notable media outlets such as ESSENCE, Refinery 29, Money Magazine, CNBC, CBS, Business Insider and more. The Journey To Launch Podcast was also named one of "27 Podcasts You Need To Start Listening To In 2018 by BuzzFeed."

Jamila and her husband saved $169,000 in two years and are debt free besides their mortgage. She is also a mother of three young children and lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Kara Stevens

Kara Stevens is the founder of The Frugal Feminista, a NYC-based personal finance and personal development company committed to helping women live life on their own terms unapologetically.

After climbing her way out of $65K worth of student loan and credit card debt, and building up her financial reserves, Kara soon saw the link between personal power and financial freedom; and wanted to inspire and educate women around the world to do the same.

Ms. Stevens is a native New Yorker and first-generation American via the beautiful island of Antigua. She possesses a BA in Political Science from Oberlin College, a MSEd in Bilingual Education from CUNY’s Hunter College and an EdM in Organizational Leadership from Columbia University’s Teachers College.

Kara and her message of financial empowerment and authentic living have been featured on Yahoo Finance, Women’s Day, Nerd Wallet, The Washington Post, and The Huffington Post. She is also the author of heal your relationship with money, Unmasking the Strong Black Woman, The Happy Finances Challenge, and Don’t Let Him Touch Your Assets (forthcoming).
